The Victorian Recycling Infrastructure Plan (VRIP), released in 2024, outlines a strategic roadmap for strengthening recycling systems across Victoria. This initiative addresses infrastructure gaps, highlights opportunities for innovation, and supports economic growth while enhancing environmental sustainability.

 

The VRIP focuses on several critical areas, including improving facilities for processing various material streams such as organics, plastics, glass, textiles, and emerging materials like e-waste and hazardous waste. The plan emphasises regional investment, with tailored strategies for areas such as Barwon South West, Gippsland, and the Port Phillip Region, ensuring a balanced approach across urban and regional communities. Additionally, the plan seeks to improve resource recovery rates and align land-use planning with recycling infrastructure needs. It also provides clear directions for future investments and actions, setting measurable targets to monitor progress over time.
