Nations Unite in Effort to End Plastic Waste
Representatives from more than 170 countries are currently engaged in critical talks, aiming to finalise a global agreement to tackle plastic pollution. This marks the culmination of ongoing negotiations, which are set to result in a landmark treaty.
Progress toward this treaty has been swift. In 2022, 175 nations voted in favour of a resolution to negotiate a binding global agreement to address plastic waste. Recognising the severity of the issue, countries set an expedited schedule, with the possibility of the treaty coming into effect as early as 2025.
This collaborative effort highlights the growing international determination to take meaningful action against the environmental and health threats posed by plastic pollution.
