Powering a Cleaner Tomorrow — One Business at a Time
As another hot summer rolls in, energy efficiency becomes more important than ever, especially for small businesses. With higher temperatures driving up energy use for cooling, lighting, and equipment, the warmer months can take a toll on both operating costs and the environment.

The good news? Many small businesses across Victoria are already leading the way in sustainability through the Small Business Energy Saver Program, an initiative helping businesses cut energy use, lower bills, and reduce emissions.
Since the program began in 2021, more than 5,000 small businesses have upgraded to energy-efficient lighting, heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems. These changes have collectively:
-
Saved businesses over $2.9 million on annual energy bills;
-
Reduced emissions by around 10,520 tonnes of CO₂ every year;
-
Delivered lifetime savings equivalent to taking more than 39,000 cars off the road.
This initiative shows how even small changes can make a big impact, especially during summer, when energy use typically spikes. By switching to energy-efficient equipment, using smart cooling systems, and making the most of natural ventilation, businesses can save money while helping create a more sustainable future.
Simple Steps for a Sustainable Summer:
-
Upgrade lighting to LEDs — they use up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs.
-
Check insulation and shading to reduce cooling costs.
-
Switch off unused equipment after hours or during holiday shutdowns.
-
Encourage energy awareness among staff — small habits lead to lasting change.
As the temperature rises, it’s a reminder that sustainability doesn’t have to come at a cost, it can save money, build resilience, and strengthen your business for the future.
Together, local businesses can help make this summer a season of positive change, one watt at a time.
