National Recycling Week: Rethinking How Businesses Reuse

Recycling Logo

National Recycling Week (11–17 November) is your chance to make a real impact. Beyond everyday recycling, Australian businesses can reduce waste, save costs, and strengthen their reputation, all while contributing to a healthier planet and a thriving circular economy.

Here are some creative ways companies can get involved:

  • Product Return Programs: Partner with suppliers or community groups to collect old or unused items for refurbishment or creative reuse. Office gear, packaging, or electronics can be transformed into new products rather than being discarded.

  • Upcycling Projects: Transform unused or surplus office materials into functional items, décor, or even art installations, possibly in partnership with local designers or community programs.

  • Specialised Recycling Partnerships: Work with innovative service providers that convert specific waste streams, such as coffee grounds, food scraps, or production offcuts, into compost, bioenergy, or other useful resources.

  • Employee Innovation Challenges: Encourage staff to develop and trial unique recycling initiatives, from creating reusable shipping materials to designing internal reuse systems for office supplies.

  • Community Circular Programs: Support local workshops or programs that teach repair, repurposing, and creative reuse, helping both employees and the wider community engage with sustainable practices.

By embracing these manageable and useful approaches, businesses can reduce their environmental footprint, along with inspiring their teams, sparking innovation, and standing out as leaders in sustainability.

National Recycling Week is an invitation to rethink our resources, reimagine waste as opportunity, and create a culture where every action contributes to a greener, smarter, more circular future.
